In August

In August the garden is sleepy, hot, and with a few exceptions, not growing very much.

Flowers do grow.

The grape vine is alive.

Shading is important.

Now we wait for a little more coolness, and eagerly plan Fall planting.

What do the neighbors see

Anyone driving by on Bonarden will see what I saw one lazy afternoon.

The tomatoes are going crazy and supplying the foodbank with food, and the sunflowers are there to remind us to look up and notice beauty.

It's that time

It's squash time.  Melons, Zucchini, etc.

It's deliciously good to walk through the garden and discover these pretties hiding under leaves.

Aprende Grows

Aprende's Garden is finished.

This is the latest team of parents, students, and teachers who came together for the project.

Teams are made of people with different skills with a common goal.  Yep, that is us.

The Little Ones

This bright, friendly, and all around adorable girl knows her vegetables.

It is heart warming to see parents teach their little ones about the earth and food.

America's Favorite

Yes, the tomato is America's favorite vegetable.

And they are growing all over the garden.

Just think long term for a moment.  The young children that visit the garden during their YMCA Spring break will go home knowing that a carrot comes from the ground because the pulled one up, washed it, and chewed on it.

Lives are made richer because we created a place where learning takes place.  Dirty, sweaty, fun learning.

March

In March we take out the old and start the new.  It was one of the work days we have.  The bulk of the gardeners come out along with Aprende NJHS students.  This time we added gravel to our paths.  Working as a group enables us to get a lot done.

2nd Annual Plant Sale

What a fantastic day it was.  It was fun all around and we are grateful for the support of the community.
